JWES will be holding its Fall Book Fair October 26-November 4. Students will be able to shop during their regular library time or before school on designated days. We will also be open during parent/teacher conference on Nov. 2 and during Family Night on Nov. 4. Please see the parent letter for the book fair calendar and more information. For ease in shopping, consider setting up an EWALLET for your child. Don't forget to Share the Fair so all students at JWES can enjoy shopping at the book fair. We hope to see you there!

Families in PE Week has been postponed. We will post again when a new date is set.
Purchase a Domino's Slice the Price Card and help JWES fund a new playground. Students will have more information coming home on Monday, September 14.
Kindergarten Color Days!
Our little learners are going to have lesson themes based on specific colors. Each day will have a theme color, and they would like to invite the entire school to join them. So on the days below feel free to have your students dress in the color of the day!

On Friday, September 11th, we will commemorate the writing of the poem "The Star-Spangled Banner" by Francis Scott Key in 1814. All students and faculty will gather at the flagpole to sing our National Anthem. All students and staff are encouraged to wear red, white, and blue. Grades 3-5 are encouraged to memorize the lyrics. It is sure to be an exciting event!
As you get ready for the new school year, don't forget one simple step that can make a big difference!

Items that are labeled can be returned to students quickly, helping keep our Lost & Found a little less full and ensuring your child doesn't lose their belongings.

The 2026/2027 school year begins on August 20, 2026. Doors will open at 7:50, and our day will start at 8:20. We can't wait to see the smiling faces of all of our JWES Jaguars!
Starting on May 7th, and for the following two weeks, something fun and exciting is happening for the students of John Wayland! They will participate in the Rockingham County Public Schools Basics of Bicycling Program, supported by Virginia Safe Routes to School Funding. We are working hard to teach students how to Bike Safe, Bike Smart, Be Active, and Have Fun!

Character Counts in RCPS! 🌟 Congratulations to Elanor Dalrymple and Alex Bennison for being selected as the 2024 Brittany Lam- Kelly Coggsdale Character Counts recipients from John Wayland Elementary School. Mrs. Hedgepeth, Ellie's 5th grade teacher, praised her compassionate nature and her ability to inspire kindness in the classroom and school. Alex is quick to help peers and teachers, pushing others to be their best. Alex is a hard worker, striving for personal and academic improvement, making the school a better place.#CharacterCounts
