I hope everyone is enjoying spring break so far! The weather is beautiful and perfect for being outside!
Last week, students enjoyed an assembly from the Virginia Wildlife Center as a culminating activity to our one book/ one school reading of A Nest for Celeste. Students learned a great deal about wild animals and made a new friend in Celeste, our office friend. Students also cheered for their favorite team during the fifth grade vs. staff basketball games. The staff did prevail, but the fifth grade students made the teachers work very hard for their victory! It was a fantastic event to begin spring break.
Students and teachers will be off from April 10-17. We look forward to seeing everyone back at school on Tuesday, April 18. While everyone is gone, the renovation will begin. Asbestos removal will start in the back gym and annex area, as well as demolition of some of the annex.
On Friday, April 21, some JWES parents are organizing a Walk to School Day. Parents may choose to walk their students to school that day. It is completely optional, but we do ask that parents walk with their student to school. If anyone wants to walk to school but lives too far away, they may park at Oakdale Park by 7:30 AM, and walk to school from there as a group. Parents have arranged for police to be located at major intersections to help with this event. If you have questions about the event, please call Jill Lassiter at 585-314-0637.
I hope everyone has a safe, relaxing break!
