We had a great week after the Thanksgiving break! Two more third grade classes, Mrs. Mizell and Mrs. Strawderman, went to Braithwaite Studios this week to complete their glass etchings. All third grade students really enjoyed this field trip!
The next few weeks will be very busy at JWES. The kindergarten classes will be going on a field trip to Target and the mall, and the fourth grade classes will be visiting the JMU Planetarium and doing an activity with the You Made It staff here in the engineering lab next week.
The annual PTA Holiday Hop will be held on Thursday, December 8, from 6:30-8:00 PM. We hope everyone will come out to have fun dancing with their friends!
Friday, December 9, is an early release at 1:00 for the students.
On Saturday, December 10, fifth graders have been invited to walk in the Bridgewater Christmas parade with the plow they helped to paint. Pictures of the decorated plow will be coming next week! JWES will also have its Barnes and Noble book fair on December 10, from 1:00-4:00 PM. Information will be coming home next Friday about the activities planned for that event.
Over the past few years, JWES has had a Library Christmas Tree Wish List, and we are continuing that tradition! A tree will be set up in the front entryway, and the ornaments on the tree will have the titles and prices of books for purchase in honor of a teacher or staff member at John Wayland. To purchase a book, choose a title and take the ornament off the tree. Drop off the ornament and a check made out to JWES in the front office. Be sure to write on the back of the ornament who the book is "from" and "to" whom the book is being given in honor. When the book is purchased, a book plate will be placed in the book in recognition of the gift. Please come to the library to speak to Ms. Harris if you have any questions.
I hope everyone stays warm this weekend!
